ABOUT US

Simec Systems is a specialist in advanced cargo loading solutions and automated truck loading systems (ATLS), operating as a dedicated division of Metsi Group. Founded in 2013 by Simo Aitto-oja, Simec Systems quickly built a reputation for designing and manufacturing special cargo handling equipment for demanding and unique loading operations.

In 2021, Simec Systems became part of Metsi Group — an industrial group with a heritage dating back to 1841 and a strong base in subcontracting services. The Simec business operates separately from the Group’s subcontracting activities, ensuring both areas receive full focus and resources. This structure allows Metsi Group to maintain its commitment to long-standing subcontracting customers while continuing to grow Simec’s ATLS product line.

With Simo Aitto-oja continuing as a minority shareholder, Metsi Group’s Managing Director Ville Volanen also served as Managing Director of Simec Systems during the early post-acquisition years. In 2025, Simec’s operations were integrated into Metsi Group companies Metsi Oy and Metsi Eesti Oy. Shortly after this restructuring, Juha Wermundsén — also a shareholder — was appointed Managing Director of both Metsi Group and Simec Systems. Ville Volanen continues as Chairman of the Group and heads the sales of Simec Systems products.

Today, Simec Systems operates as a distinct brand within Metsi Group, delivering reliable, efficient, and future-ready automated loading and unloading systems for trucks, containers, and industrial applications worldwide.

METSI – 180 YEARS

On 10th May 1841, the Official newspaper of Finland announced the founding of the Helsinki Mechanical Institute.

”Taking into account the need for a Mechanical workshop to promote industry and technical education… His Imperial Majesty has most graciously wanted to allow… Martin Wetzer to establish such a workshop in the City of Helsinki…”

This became the beginning of a unique chapter in Finnish technology and industrial history, which today continues as Metsi Oy, an internationally operating company privatized from VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland in 2000 and growing rapidly at the forefront of its industry.
